A First Posting for 2020

Happy New Year and welcome to my first post on a new website at the start of a new decade.  Here’s a recap from 2019 and highlights of what’s coming up in 2020.

2019 saw the release of a very special film about the life and music of Alice Gerrard.  This filmmaking journey has been so rewarding — professionally, personally, emotionally, and musically.  I’m grateful to Alice for her ongoing support and friendship and to so
many generous  film supporters and our fabulous film team.

We had over one thousand people attend our hometown premiere in April at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival here in Durham, NC, and then took the film to the Woods Hole Film Festival, Docutah Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival,  Milwaukee Film Festival, Sound Unseen, St. Louis International Film Festival, and Carrboro Film Festival. 
And to top it all off, we brought home two awards from the IndieMemphis Film Festival – the Soul of Southern Film Award, an honor selected from all the narrative and documentary films, and the Audience Award in the ‘Sounds’ category.
 
I’m excited for these upcoming screenings: at The Floyd Country Store in Floyd, VA on Feb. 13th and the Berkeley Bluegrass Festival at Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, CA on April 5th; across the South in April as part of  Southern Circuit, a project of South Arts;
She Changed the World: North Carolina Women Breaking Barriers, a project of the NC Dept of Natural and Cultural Resources

During the year ahead, I’ll continue the work of sharing and distributing You Gave Me a Song and other films, use my video production talents to support voting rights and social & climate justice efforts leading up to the November elections, explore and research for my next doc project, and hopefully write more posts.
